It’s more likely this is a result of “entering with a blocked card using the exit gates”, and is of little relevance to the issue originally raised in this thread. This closed thread explains it:

Some of the hardware already does it very quickly though. As has already been pointed out several times above.

Banned cards won't let you in. If revenue find one their device will tell them it's banned. As has already been pointed out quite a few times. They also may not let you out, or they may only sometimes.

So, unless you're suggesting people are using several hundred cards each for two journeys and getting them banned and somehow not being caught or triggering their bank's anti-fraud measures for all the declined payments...

Ok I will try this out, tap in with one credit card and present another valid card to the conductor for them to check.

PS How do you know TfW don't receive data from the tap in devices?
If the system is the way you say, it would be liable to fraud on a grand scale.

I just tried this and guess what? The conductors card reader knows which card I used to tap in, nothing at all to do whether the card was valid or not. The device just reads the card, it went red with a beep beep when another valid credit card was used. Correct card causes the unit to go green, device just looks like a normal chip and pin machine, a bit bulky IMHO.

I presumed this was how the system works, after all if I can log into to my bank and see the £0.00 TfW pending charge immediately why on earth would that data not be available to the conductor.
