Does anyone know what is diagrammed to work the following trains? I'm guessing it's either 150s or 158s...

1N96 07:01 Pompey to Brighton (08:19), then 1V94 09:00 to Great Malvern (14:38) (then down to Weymouth)

...and...

1O98 10:43 Great Malvern to Brighton (16:14), then 1V96 17:00 to Worcester Shrub Hill (22:10).

I always thought what rolling stock FGW send out on a particular service was random depending on whether it was cleared for that route, though that's how it seems to me for what turns up for my train every day.

Obviously pacers aren't cleared for that route, but are 150s and 153s not also?

The stock is supposed to be 158, 2 car although in the past the friday afternoon departure and one of the sundays was 4 car. however 150s do substitute.
class 14X are banned from the SR dc network as they can in theory come in to contact with the 3rd rail.
I've never seen a class 153 east of southampton although the class 153s were made by splitting up class 155s which were the first sprinters on Brighton to Southampton Services.
I would suggest that the reason that single engine trains are not operated along the coastway is the potential for paying massive delay penalties when there is no compatible stock to rescue them
