For no particular reason I travelled from Paddington to Newport today. I was very disappointed with the state of the track, or maybe the 5-car 800 train, I am not sure which. Particularly between Paddington and Reading, the track was very rough but strange bumps and rhythms continued at intervals throughout the journey. On my return journey, from Chester (don't ask) to Euston, the general smoothness of the track was very much a contrast, or was it this time the 220 unit? Despite the diesel noise, the journey was more comfortable than the electric. Was I unlucky, or have others had a similar experience?

Part of the problem could be that you were on an 800 but when I traveled on gwr the ride seems worse than in other areas of the uk.
