GSM-R Question

Those of us who use this system know about the DSD alarm and what triggers it, but I am unsure whether or not the DSD alarm also sounds if the vigilance is not acknowledged.

I normally drive with the DSD held down solely by weight (my leg, not my bag before some wag suggest otherwise) and suspect that if I was incapacitated for some reason I may not release it. However, as I would not acknowledge the vigilance in this scenario, would the DSD alarm still be activated? Does anyone know the answer to this for certain or is this something I shall have to explore the next time I prep a train?

From the relevant standard (RIS-0794-CCS, available here if you've got a log in for the RSSB website):

G 3.2.1.3 The GSM-R train voice radio/DSD interface enables a priority 2 DSD alarm pre-defined text message to be sent automatically by the cab radio, if the driver becomes incapacitated or fails to reset the vigilance.

Short answer yes- if you fail to acknowledge vigilance you will get the trumpet sound eventually from the GSMR and then after a further 60 seconds a text message is sent to the signaller alerting them.
