Don't know if this is already a thread - BBC reporting a train hitting a shopping trolley. Rear four cars "separated" - technically, yes, but 'uncoupled' would be better. Presumably not a 717, as shown in the picture, though!

A Great Northern train crashed into the trolley about a mile (1.6km) from King’s Lynn, Norfolk at 19:20 BST on Sunday night.

It became wedged beneath the train, blocking the line, external to and from London for about four hours.

The British Transport Police said it was investigating the incident...

Shopping trolleys are a pain in the arse. They become like big spiny metal sea urchins and rip out electrical cables and air pipes, then usually get stuck wrapped around an axle or something inconvenient.

I always pick them up if I find them left at unmanned stations and take them into somewhere bigger because I know what will happen if someone decides to give them a helping hand on to the track.

Indeed, not to mention messing with the juice rail on those sections.

The rear four was used to transport the passengers back to the previous station, for alternative travel to Kings Lynn.
