I believe this was the last train ever to go along the Rochdale via Oldham loop a couple of years ago. Does anybody know if she's still knocking about and where she usually operates from?

As with all the 156s, it goes everywhere! I've had it in Liverpool last month, but could easily be in Carlisle or Leeds.

Yes 156466 is still around carrying it's name. As with all Northern 156s it can pop up almost anywhere. It has been running in the North West recently, I was on it about a week ago and have seen on various services since.

Carlisle yes, Leeds no.156's have been exiled from Yorkshire, ending up at Heaton or Newton Heath, the only time we ever see them is at Neville Hill for heavy maintenance or the odd stock move.

So what is used on the Leeds to Carlisle route via Settle then?

As driver9000 has just said it is 2 car 158's, sometimes strengthened with a 153.

The Morecambe/Heysham can be worked by anything. Primarily a mix of 142, 144 or 150 but i've also seen single 153 and 158 work it.

I do think that the 156 was better suited to the S&C work, although it makes sense to standardize fleets at depots.

Last time I saw a 156 in the Yorkshire area was when there was disruption and one got put onto a Man Vic - Leeds working. Apart from that you'll have to go north or further west to see one.
