I noticed this the other day while in the area - an extension of the busway south from Tichborne Way to Rowner Road is due for completion this autumn. At only half a mile long, it won’t make a huge dent in Fareham - Gosport journey times, but at least it will allow buses to bypass more residential roads.
Assuming the E1 and E2 routes get diverted along the extension, this would leave Tichborne Way and Forest Way without a bus service. As with other estates further north, passengers from these estates may be expected to walk to new stops on the busway, but at the expense of extra travel time unless living right next to it. Perhaps other conventional routes might be diverted to serve these estates or even new Eclipse branded routes.
Also considering that this extension won’t bypass the congestion in the Elson and Brockhurst areas of Gosport, is it likely that the busway will be extended even further south in the future? Looking at maps the old railway is occupied by a cycle track with wide grass verges as far as Lees Lane/Whitworth Road, so can’t see space being an issue up to this point.
