It was a mix where I went to school - people who could actually draw did graphics. I couldn't and I'm also crap at cutting in a straight line with a saw, so I did electronics, and burned myself on a regular basis with soldering irons, and have the scars to prove it all!

Still got a B grade overall on it though!

Probably, down here, all the less able (academically) and disruptive kids do Resistant Materials and all the more talented ones do Graphics. That's if they are doing a technology. Girls tend to do Food Technology, Textiles or Child Development as they call it, a few do Graphics.

Similar to my school then.

In my school there are too many girls to do just Cooking. So half to cooking, half do Graphics with a handful of boys doing the same.

And, there's one girl who does Resistant Materials. 8)

At our school you Have to do a minimum of 1 GCSE in Tech, as we are a technology college now, so I've done Graphics and Engineering, as most will know. I've also done Product Design, which is after school, so I'll probably do a scale model of something or other!!

Just a quick comment on modern GCSE practices more than anything else, but anyway...

Still, with a 150% in the exam I can get a F in Engineering. Not as bad as some, they could only get a U with 110%!!

Hang on a second...How does one get over 100% in a structured exam? :?
Although I realise that grades in a subject like Wood and Metalwork might be split 50/50 between a paper (The exam) and a physical project (Pre-exam coursework), shouldn't the maximum marks for both total 100%?

Although if ye want my own personal opinion: Modern GCSE courses and marking standards aren't nearly as good and as clear-cut as they were twenty years ago...They've put so much "compensational grading" and other red-tape into the process nowadays, that it allows poor work to get high marks, whereas genuinely decent work (Like Class313's lamp above) often gets marked down! hock::cry:

Class 313: Irrespective of my views on modern GCSE practices, I reckon that ye should get top-marks in thy practical for that lamp! I've only got an apprentice level of skill in carpentry myself, but personally I think that lamp of yours is damn good! 8)

Hey Death!

Thanks for that, Overall with the Lamp and the written test I got a B. I am most please with that as a result as in the mocks I completely failed the exam!

I cant ever really I have spoken to Death before but what I meant was like this Excel thing that the teacher had to work out how much you'd need to get whatever grade. So obviously it didn't end at 100%, it just kept going.. was rather clever though! :grin:
