Gaps in afternoon bus timetables

Yes the route my company runs has a similar gap in the service so that the bus can go and do a school contract before returning to service. We picked it up when Arriva dropped it and the only way to make it sustainable is to utilise a school bus to run it.
Therefore there is a gap from 0800-0845 and again in the afternoon 1520-1605 plus a lunch break (1135-1300 currently) to minimise the cost.

Two of the Southern Vectis tourist services also have gaps, presumably because the vehicles also do school runs. In term time the only afternoon Island Coaster return service starts from Yarmouth at 16.20, while in the holidays there are departures at 14.50, 15.50 and 16.50; the three morning outward services run throughout, but all start after 09.00. In the holidays the Shanklin Shuttle is half-hourly from 09.41 to 17.41, except for missing one trip just after 13.00. On schooldays it also ceases just after half-past two and returns after half-past four.
