That's interesting to know.

I imagine 3 carriage 170's throughout, strengthened by a 158 between Nottingham and Liverpool would be a good capacity match.
It happened the other week during disruption, but just as a one off. A 158/170 5 car combo ran from Ely to Nottingham with a guard in each unit

I wonder why a guard was in each unit? Maybe a previous cancellation and a very proactive employee.

I believe it's exactly that, plus something to do with the differences in units when coupled as they're not compatible. I'm not sure on the ins and outs though so can't confirm

I wasn’t intending for Nottingham to remain as a GA depot but if it did it would not really be any different to what Norwich EMR drivers do now. They just have an odd Leicester local attached to some diagrams but that’s only the Syston North Jcn to Leicester itself as extra as sign both routes to Peterborough. We could allow them the odd Yarmouth for extra interest.
I was thinking under the nationalised railway that Nottingham would still sign Norwich but would keep their other routes. EMR Norwich would disappear,
I was envisaging the three links at Norwich that sign the Breckland route to Cambridge signing Ely-Nottingham.
and add Leicester too

Would be almost a repeat of the early 1990s when Peterborough Regional Railway depot closed and Cambridge drivers concentrated on the Birmingham route and Norwich learnt Peterborough-Nottingham.
Peterborough seems a worthwhile location perhaps 20 to 30 drivers (a small link) signing Stansted, Norwich, Birmingham, Nottingham and the Joint Line

All hypothetical of course.
Yes although GBR is coming
