Belgian Railways have appeared to have banned Fyra trains running into Belgium, according to uk.railway. From 26 Jan there will be a new IC service between Roosendaal and Antwerpen.

At the moment, it's top of their news page at
http://www.fyra.com/Travel/News

Fyra service temporarily suspended... In addition, SNCB is putting AnsaldoBreda, the italian manufacturer of the Fyra V250 trains, in default.

and further down, AnsaldoBreda apologising, saying
The problems, occurred in the last days on trains V250, were caused by unexpected problems that, after the first technical tests seem to be related to an undue accumulation, under the vehicles, of a big quantity of snow, that turning into ice and detaching during the train running, damaged some parts of the underframe.

Yes, it's a major fiasco. All Fyra trains were cancelled from 17th Jan until further notice, following bits falling off the trains whilst in service. Both Belgian and Dutch governments now involved, with a temporary infill train from Antwerpen - Essen (Belgium) running and just the Thalys left providing direct through trains. The Fyras were running in their timetabled slots on 19th Jan, when I was there, but without passengers: presumably test running...!

Same on the 20th in Brussels. I like the carriage sides, but the fronts (sorry, not sure if they are locomotives or 'units') are ugly!

It is expected the trains will be out of service for several months. If they will be re-introduced ever is highly uncertain as the Belgium state railways have announced to terminate the Fyra program in 3 months if not all problems are solved.

So, hurry up with those IEP trains so e can take over second hand HST's...;)
