What locos that are around now would you like to see saved for preservation
ive chosen a few locos out and about on the mainline so pick one you would love to bash for yaers to come after they have been withdrawn

Yeh its a shame though, it would cost loads to electrify a preserved line

just a point on HST in preservation do you think they would run shortened trains?

Nope, just because a train is preserved doesnt mean it has to go on a preserved line, you could use them for tours or hire them out

Don't think so, many charters run trains just as long as the HST i think also that the 125 group plan to put a preserved valenta into a HST too.

59's as they were revolutionary when built. At the time they were the 1st privatley owned on the mainline, set the way for the 66's (like it or not), single handed hauled stone trains which previously were entrusted to double headed 56's. Remember watching them passing along the North London line in the 80's and they were impresive, like nothing that had gone before.

HSTs are a given.

I'd also love to see a Class 92 preserved, they are in many ways the ultimate electric locomotive, and having seen them only a few times, they have a mystique about them for me.

I'd have voted for more than one, but the HST is clearly the most important train to preserve in that list. It's been too much of a success not to be.

Ideally, an example of every class should be preserved. But for me, a full HST set would be the most important to preserve, with both the interior and exterior redesigned to be as it was when the HSTs were first introduced. I imagine there will be a lot of pressure to preserve a Valenta engined example.

An HST would be ideal for long distance railtours and charters. I can't think of any of charter train that's cleared for 125mph running.

I know it would have required the NRM to be about the size of the moon, but I feel it is somewhat a shame that at least around "Modernisation" (if not before) that there wasn't an effort to set up a trust to preserve an example of every class for static display at a minimum, including prototypes and experimental classes.

(or fully truly insane, one of every sub class, in every standard livery that sub class ever carried)
