London To Delhi to do a restore from a tape I was carrying in my top pocket.

Early Morning to flight LHR to DEL.. 30 min tape restore.. Back on the evening flight DEL to LHR.

Back home stupidly late and back in the office first thing the next day.

Repeated again the next week but to BOM this time.

My only, and not very long, air day trip: Guernsey -- Alderney and back: 20-minute flight in tiny 12-seater plane, a couple of years ago. Had been to all the other inhabited Channel Islands -- my week's holiday then in Guernsey, likely my last visit to the island group. I had a real yen for a look at Alderney: in the time I was there, there was no day when the (cheaper) boat was running -- so I bit the bullet, paid the quite pricey fare, and flew. It got me 5 / 6 hours on the island: chance for a decent walk around, allowing of seeing a fair bit of the place -- liked it.

My longest and last trip was London to New York for a day. In those days BA001 took just over three hours. The return trip back to Southampton on the QE2 took six nights. I was right at the bottom of the ship. Both journeys were great experiences and unfortunately cannot be repeated. I suppose it is called progress.

Best wishes, Stephen.

Mine is Luton - Glasgow several times.

Not within the 24 Hr rule, but certainly within the spirit of the question; someone I know did London - Auckland and return with BA for an interview and basically had the few hours in Auckland that the plane had as layover. (This was a while ago).

As he wasn't staying, he didn't even take hand luggage, and used a disposable toothbrush. Arriving back at Heathrow, he had a rather interesting interview with Customs as a result.

"Where have you traveled from Sir?"
"Auckland"
"Where's your luggage, Sir?"
"I haven't got any"
"Step this way please." (to the sound of rubber gloves being donned)

Longest trip I have done in less than a day was Auckland to Santiago on Christmas Eve 2011. Took off from Auckland at about 4 in the afternoon on Chrimbo Eve on an LAN A340 and landed at 11 in the morning 13 or so hours later at 11 in the morning on Christmas Eve in Santiago, Chile. A journey of approximately -5 hours. That was my longest ever Chrimbo eve, and young kids find it tough!

Is that Bishop Auckland or Auckland NZ? ;)

I hope the company paid for the flight.

I'll probably be a contender for the shortest longest day trip by air. The only day trip I've ever done in a plane was from Connemara Airport (Galway) out to Inis Mór. From memory the flight of 10-15 miles took about three minutes each way!

^Surely the school kids of Papa Westray win that accolade (although I doubt any are members of the forum).
