It varies tbh if you buy el cheapo batteries from down the market they may not be as good as 'proper' batteries.

A set of 10 (100% extra free) uniross AAs set me back a fiver at Focus (I think it was...)

It depends on how you use them and the environment of where you use them.
We have some they seem good.

It depends on what mAh rating you get. I used to have a set of 700mAh AAAs for my computer mouse (not very demanding I know) they'd last like 2 or 3 months at a time without a recharge.
