However, the links that you provided may not hold a true reflection on the prices of batteries; they could be absurdly cheap (which would be great for Gizzy, but would not answer her question) or expensive, which would give Gizzy the wrong idea as to the value of a rechargable battery.

I would tell you what I paid for one Gizzy, but unfortunately I've never purchased one so I can't :(

A set of 10 (100% extra free) uniross AAs set me back a fiver at Focus (I think it was...)

Ah, that sounds reasonable. How are the Uniross batteries? How long do they last and such?

It depends on what mAh rating you get. I used to have a set of 700mAh AAAs for my computer mouse (not very demanding I know) they'd last like 2 or 3 months at a time without a recharge.
