I don't see how a Pacer on a local stopper is any different to a 15x unit working the same diagram? The low average speed is due to the stopping pattern, not the traction. Had 142065 from Lancaster to Carnforth (and onto Skipton) yesterday - average speed along the short section of the WCML to Carnforth was considerably more than 20mph!
