Service changes from 1st September:
Sheffield service changes - 30th August
South Yorkshire Service Changes From Sunday 30 August 2026, we'll be making changes to a number of services across Sheffield and Doncaster. These changes include frequency updates, timetable changes and route updates. Please check your service below before you travel.www.firstbus.co.uk
Hardly a difference really, it’s essentially 1 less bus per hour on a heavily served corridor.Regarding 47/8/75/75a what do you expect when between Shiregreen & Firth Park you charge 40p more for a single fare than Stagecoach for the same section, more similar on Shiregreen to City as the difference is only 10p. Also messing the services up by splitting the Shiregreen loop hasn’t really worked especially with the 75a mess
3 less buses per hour - one 47/48 and two 75as removed.Hardly a difference really, it’s essentially 1 less bus per hour on a heavily served corridor.
My perception is that a lot of this mess was created by First withdrawing the 1a and 95/95a in September 2024. This meant the 75 and 76 has to be rerouted to fill in the gaps, which left gaps of its own, requiring the 47/48 to be reintroduced.Regarding 47/8/75/75a what do you expect when between Shiregreen & Firth Park you charge 40p more for a single fare than Stagecoach for the same section, more similar on Shiregreen to City as the difference is only 10p. 75A was introduced to serve Parson Cross and Fox Hill but wasn’t utilised so ended up being curtailed at Shiregreen presumably to remove a PVR.3 less buses per hour - one 47/48 and two 75as removed.

It was at the same time that the 75a was introduced. Must admit it's not really clear to me what the point of it is. What significant link does it provide that the 47/48 or the regular 75 doesn't? Is it just that they want to terminate half the 75s early rather than send them all through to Chapeltown?
The 47/48 currently is a bit odd. (was the version from before 2015 any different? I don't know).
Having loops at both ends means one of them has to be split, otherwise there would be no layover time.
Perhaps in 2024 it would have been better for them to leave the 75/76 going to Shiregreen, and introduce a new service running Herdings - Highfield - Sheffield Centre - Pitsmoor Road - Firth Park - Wincobank - Meadowhall.
75a does not serve Chapeltown, it starts and terminates at Butterthwaite Road on the Shiregreen loop. It's basically just a shortened 75 with a little 2-stop variation at the northern end.75A was introduced to serve Parson Cross and Fox Hill but wasn’t utilised so ended up being curtailed at Chapeltown presumably to remove a PVR.
One significant flaw in the Bus Partnership rewrite in 2015, which created the Stagecoach 1 and First 1a, was that they set out with a stated aim of giving passengers a choice of bus operators on as many corridors as possible - a complete red herring with the entirely predictable consequence of splitting what could be a single well-planned service between separate entities who can't consider the whole picture.75/76 makes sense staying in Shiregreen with the 1 continuing to High Green from a franchise perspective but not while operators were competing.
I meant Shiregreen sorry, no idea why I put Chapeltown.75a does not serve Chapeltown, it starts and terminates at Butterthwaite Road on the Shiregreen loop. It's basically just a shortened 75 with a little 2-stop variation at the northern end.
The partnership just wasn’t well managed. It was poorly planned from the start with the initial route changes and even if they had worked, SYPTE had very little control or money to put in to maintain it. Leicester is a good example of a working bus partnership, Sheffield unfortunately was far from it.One significant flaw in the Bus Partnership rewrite in 2015, which created the Stagecoach 1 and First 1a, was that they set out with a stated aim of giving passengers a choice of bus operators on as many corridors as possible - a complete red herring with the entirely predictable consequence of splitting what could be a single well-planned service between separate entities who can't consider the whole picture.
Even without franchising, it could have been decided in 2015 to consolidate similar services with the same operator rather than fragmenting them.
