First cymru are to start a open top bus service from Monday using Bristol VRT MOD 571P which some members may remember from its days down in weymouth.

Bus will be operating service 1 Swansea - Braclet bay. service operates daily except for wednesdays til early september.

Buses from Swansea bus stn at 10:20 then hourly* til 17:20 (* No bus at 13:20) and returning from Braclet bay at 10:50 then hourly til 17:50 (likewise no bus at 13:50)

This is the last Bristol VRT left in service with First, in fact there was talk of it being scrapped but it seems to have ecaped the cutter's torch for a while.

This will also bring back a regular open top bus service to swansea since the 1990's and will be a bit strange seing this vintage vehicle with all of the low floor vehicles which are running around.

Also now that First have taken over the gower explorer network all day tickets for first cymru's are now valid to the gower, the swansea plus bus ticket is valid to Gowerton & Mumbles and should cover the section to Braclet bay however the tickets are not valid to the gower at the moment.

Hopefully when first are fed up with her, they will send her to the Swansea Bus Museum, where another Bristol VRT is kept.

There is more than 1 VRT at the bus musuem, when i was there last i counted 4 together with a routemaster and at least 3 leyland nationals as well as other various buses.

1 of the nationals is supposed to be back on the road in the next few months.

looking forward to 19th june, transport show where i think there will be a open day at the museum with free bus rides

...I remeber it from its days in Portsmouth!! Painted in Provincial red & cream, always looked very nice :) Great to hear she's still going strong, I must say I'm suprised. First wouldn't have any trouble coming up with something newer and less non-standard, so for it to have moved so far afield and stayed alive is really quite an achievement! :D

There was talk of it going down to Barnstaple not, sure but perhaps one of the first cymru managers saw it and decided that they wanted it.

Apart from the greyhound/schools & national express fleet as well as the 4 volvo olympian and 2 mercedes-benz minibuses in use at Port Talbot & Maesteg.

first cymru's fleet is 100% low floor so it will be unusual to see this coming into the new bus station on monday.
