Looking at doing first class in the summer in the evening , want to try dinner services ?
Is the service the same Southbound from Edinburgh or Glasgow as nb from London?

As for VTWC, I've never experienced a difference in the direction of travel.
Though to call it Dinner is something of a misnomer. If a restaurant was to serve it up, you'd certainly never go there again.

More of a Dinner--based snack.

I’d go West Coast for the views, beautiful and/or interesting near enough all the way. The ECML is boring as sin except the bit very near Edinburgh.

The only VTWC from Edinburgh that offers hot food is the 1852 which runs to Birmingham New Street. The 1652 is a lunch offer service which is also the last direct service to Euston. This may sway your decision.

LNER provide much more substantial first class catering and are more generous from my experience, whereas Virgin Trains can be quite tight with drinks.
