So page 23 is not relevant to you; as I have stated above in my reply, you are not entitled to any compensation, as outlined in the Great Western customer charter.
Thank you for confirming this with me. I'm very disappointed; it took me bloody ages to get home that day and to find out I'm not entitled to any form of compensation is most frustrating. What's worse, it's those have to fork out more (such as myself!) that lose out! Say someone has an Off-Peak Day Return from Cardiff to Bristol which is £11.80*, they would get compensation, whereas myself who has to fork out £270* (£259.20 at the time), which is a lot for a student such as myself, don't receive anything!
Still, in fairness, I have to say, I think First Great Western were very good during the disruption, especially on their Facebook page so they do deserve some credit!
As a follow-up to this, I have decided that it is actually cheaper to buy Off-Peak Day Returns at £7.80* every day (all of these figures are with a 16-25 RC). I go in Monday to Friday so that would be £39 a week, including £11.50 for PlusBus (£2.30 per day), so all together that would be £50.50*, instead of £70.30*. Also, if I am subject to delays, I will be likely to receive compensation then, although of course that is not the reason why I have changed ticket methods; the real reason is to save money!
Thanks to everyone for their replies and advice during this thread, it is much appreciated! It's great to have such experienced and knowledgeable members who are experts in certain fields.
