Fastest section in Virgin Trains.

Hello!

I spend in London holiday (in Poland it's all July and August) and Christmas. And I think about journey to Edinburgh with Virgin Trains. But I'll have 50% off, because my cousin working in Virgin, and my sister want travel for fastest speed. My question is where is nearest place where going Pendolino with fastest speed (140mph, 225kmph).

390s (Pendolinos) have a theoretical top speed of 140mph however there is no-where that they operate where the line speed is 140mph. The fastest sections are 125mph. If you want to travel on the fastest domestic services you need to travel on HS1 between St Pancras and Ashford International where the line speed is 140mph.

Thank you, but I mean fastest section in Virgin, because I'll have 50% off prices of tickets, and my sister want travel with high speed. 140mph and 125mph isn't a big difference for my sister And I mean where my sister must travel for this speed. Because certainly not to Watford Junction Milton Keynes or Crewe or Runcorn?

As I said there are no sections of 140mph running on Virgin Trains. Whilst the Pendolinos are capable of that speed the line itself is limited to 125mph.

You'll easily reach 125mph on a short London to Milton Keynes run. It's 125 most of the way.

There aren't any direct Virgin Trains services between London and Edinburgh.

The London Kings Cross-Edinburgh services also run at up to 125mph but they use older non-tilting trains.

To do London Euston-Edinburgh on tilting trains you'd need to change at one of Warrington Bank Quay, Wigan North Western, Preston, Lancaster or Carlisle.

I presume as it's a xx43 departure, it's via Brum?

Yep, basically a merger of the Edinb-Brum and Wolves-London trains southbound, and an extension of a Brum terminator northbound.

Personally, I would travel the entire route to Glasgow from Euston
That way you will have full experience of the tilt and 125mph between Preston and Glasgow, otherwise you will have a Super Voyager (less tilt) although it will save you some journey time direct to Edinburgh

On the southern section of the WCML, presume its EPS of 125mph all the way from Rugby to Euston (well, until the Wembley yards) even through the longer tunnels; Kilsby and Watford etc. At Rugby itself only services from Coventry heading south, slow-down for the 75mph section across the concrete flyover which makes up Trent Valley Junction.

The tunnels aren't 125, Kilsby is 110 if I recall.
