Congestion/confusion versus demand. It is easier and simpler for the train to run empty up the fast to Harrow and provide cross-platform interchange. In practice trains were meeting the previous Uxbridge to maintain through connections.

TfL have reversed the entire service at Wembley before so I was surprised that they could not slot in the 4tph Watfords coming out from the depot between the trains coming from the city into platform 2, given that you are effectively running the exact same number of trains as usual from that point anyway?**

Please note that my query relates to the Northbound ONLY. I completely understand why you remove the Southbound service at Harrow and run down the fast as to avoid having to detrain at Wembley Park platform 5.

**Oh and I just realised, in order to get them from the depot and onto the fast lines via platform 1 at Wembley, you will end up crossing/blocking the main line from the City anyway!

Not complaining, it's nice to see the fast lines used in both directions

Another one coming up in march

It is the same the weekend before as well (7th and 8th of March). I am travelling from Custom House (Excel) and was going to change at Farringdon. Looks like Tottenham Court Road and Northern Line (or walk) towards Kings Cross

Yes rail grinding and track works I believe. Others may have more details.

TfL rationale for Thameslink not calling at Farringdon on 24/25 January, as per one of today's FoI responses:

Station closures of the nature you refer to, are necessary due to the nature of the works undertaken, and to ensure that safety of passengers and the engineers working on site.

For example. the works carried out at Farringdon involved drainage and ballast replacement along the track, which required:

1. Prolonged, uninterrupted access to the worksite, and
2. Protection of the engineering team from live train operations.

Allowing passenger trains to stop adjacent to an active track renewal site would introduce unacceptable risks, including workers being exposed to passenger train movements, the potential for tools and materials to be within the swept path, and the inability to maintain a safe system of work. It was noted that there was no way of fire sheeting the shared accesses therefore it was safer to request the non-stopping of services. Closure of the station also makes engineers access easier as it allows tools, plant and materials to be stored at street level and brought down when required. Equipment of this nature would be much harder to use and store safely in an environment which remains open to the public.

We do not hold risk assessments for the decisions. The risk assessments we have are those for the engineering activities themselves (drainage, ballast renewal, access strategy, etc.). These assessments identify hazards to the workforce and specify that a protected possession without passenger operations is required as a control measure.

This is almost certainly their rationale for the passes on 7/14/15 March too (Thameslink core is closed on 8 March).

It was nice of them to respond to the first half of that Foi request.

I noticed a [request](https://tfl.gov.uk/corporate/transparency/freedom-of-information/foi-request-detail?referenceId=FOI-4089-2526) earlier in the week regarding this topic that was outrightly rejected that used some of the terms suggested in post #41. The one they replied to seems to have been more vague/general making it more difficult for TfL to suggest releasing the information may be harmful to national infrastructure.

Quite right to close the station. Those days have long passed.

Not entirely sure these railways are that close except in the area where one passes over the other.

Considering it’s common practice all over the country to close fast lines but leave slows open, and vice versa. I personally would consider the risk higher in that situation then there is in this.
