An open ticket from Huddersfield issued at the ticket office states 'valid for one journey to/from Manchester stations'. My understanding is that this does not include travel on the Metrolink, but does include the tpe services to or from Redcar and Manchester airport (via Victoria) or the stopping service that runs through Stalybridge via Guide Bridge to Piccadilly.

Although a single zone 1 tram journey is under 2 pounds if you need to use it.

It doesn't. From Huddersfield, you'd need the through ticket to be to destination 'GM METROLNK Z1' to travel in the City Centre.

It's an extra £1.40 for an adult single within Metrolink Zone 1 if/when such ticket is needed to be bought separately.

After much searching I found tickets from outside GM (Slaithwaite not Huddersfield but the principle is the same), on to various metrolink zones, but the one ticket including both train and metrolink was a lot more expensive (and the only delivery option was "collect from station", so not downloadable to a phone app) than a train ticket plus a one day Metrolink travelcard, so I don't think I'll bother.

Coming from outside the area I tend to get a Greater Manchester Rail Ranger if I am going to be travelling around those areas for a day. It's largely a rail ticket within the Gmpte travel area, but it does include zone 1 Metrolink travel for Nine pounds.

Another option, depending on what exactly's needed, is the Bee Network AnyBus / Train / Tram ticket (£11.40 off-peak).
