Far North Line trip advice

Thanks to Scotrail's mega balls up, ive got tickets to Wick for far cheaper than they should have been. I'm looking for places to stay-needs to be as cheap as possible though. Found the Waterside guest house in Thurso, who I emailed and would be happy to have me (being 16, lots of chain hotels won't), however from looking at reviews some make it out to be dreadful!

I was also looking at the sleeper carriage at Rogart, which at £22 per night (single occupancy+self catering+10% discount for arriving by rail(!)) Seems very good.

Anyone else able to offer any reccommendations/advice?

Where are you looking to stay? The Conon Bridge hotel is basic, but okay, and cheap.

Highly recommended, it really is, but I will also admit that it's run by friends of mine.

In Inverness, there's MacDonald House, a great guesthouse next to the riverside quite near to the station. It's on the western bank, opposite the cathedral, on Ardross Street.
