Falkirk Bus Station Closure

Does anyone understand why the bus station has been closed? I know its an eye sore but is there new house or shops to get built on the ground?

Its improvement away from that dump, The owner is in Florida, and its believe there are plans to make the old Farmfoods/fab building into new flat complex, However with the bus station gone, but the other building might get converted to flats? You have to wonder about the shop, hairdress and barkery will last.

There's plenty of places in Falkirk Town Centre for them to go if they need to move. We'll see what happens, it's a good place to have a business provided it's a coffee shop or charity shop it seems.

And for those wondering how the service changes are going well the council hasn't bothered to update most of the bus stops yet. Wonderful.

Here is some clarification regarding the ownership of the bus station and what has happened, straight from the horse's mouth.

Due to some incorrect and slanderous information that has been posted on the Falkirk Herald's article about the movement of the First Bus location in Falkirk from Callendar Riggs to Newmarket Street, we would like to clarify that we are extremely disappointed that First Bus are leaving. We would also like to clarify some of the information that has been incorrectly passed around.

First Bus actually own the u-shaped road at the bus station which surrounds Storm Nightclub, they also own the pavement area which has the corrugated metal covers over it. The choice for First Bus to vacate the premises at Callendar Riggs was their own, Hannigan Hotels Ltd had no involvement in the decision.

HHLtd has NOT increased the rent on the two units leased by First Bus - the ticket office & the staff mess / rest room. In fact, no tenant has seen an increase in rent. Further to this, HHLtd has not refused to do any repairs - all leases are under a standard Full Tenant Repairing & Insuring Lease.
HHLtd own the buildings & the land from Renella's Salon along & around to Flashpoint Tattoo and The Engine Room Gym.

Our company motto is "Investing in Falkirk" and we value Falkirk as a town, and it's inhabitants and we always encourage businesses to grow, seeing a business in Falkirk thrive is beneficial to us all. We are disappointed and saddened that false information continues to be circulated about our involvement.

When we purchased the area at Callendar Riggs, we did this with the view to improve the area of the east end and assist in the improvement and investment of Falkirk. We have since have since remodeled the old Remax offices which were uninhabitable and transformed them, this unit is now leased by Oliphants the Baker and Falkirk Building Company Ltd's Head Offices / We transformed a delipidated empty upper office for Donald Watt Financial Advisor / We overhauled the previous Callander Pharmacy which is now leased by the "Cash for your Clothes" shop and renovated the upper area at Callander Road into the space which is now The Engine Room Gym and Liam Healy Sports Therapy, both which are start-up businesses by young local people, something we get behind wholly.

HHLtd continues to invest in Falkirk buying derelict properties and encouraging businesses.

A prime example of our local investment was the space which is 9-11 Vicar Street that has previously lay empty for over 7 years. We bought this whole unit and invested heavily into the building and turned it into a prestige wedding building. This space is now is home to successful locally owned businesses Stewart Highland Kilt Hire, John Darrel Cakes and Olivia Cameron Bridal Wear.

There are no plans to demolish the space at Callander Riggs for a hotel, however there was a planning application to turn the 2 large shops at 16-19 Callendar Riggs (Formerly Crockets Hardware and Wolesley's Furniture, which haven’t been rented since the previous tenants vacated) into 4 smaller shops, with the upper floors being converted into 7 flats.

We hope that this clarifies any issues or misinformation that people might have been given and incorrectly sharing on.

Ah but first did spend some money on doing up the bus station, not very well but it just wasn't good enough. First does not have the capital to spend money on stuff like this, and everyone knows this. It was very litmed to what it could have done with the pavement area.

What about the flat planned for the Farmfood building?
