As for service provision I suggested splitting the service at York so London to Darlington Electric service with HSTs running between York and Scotland - at that time the Class 91s weren't allowed via the Durham Coast.

Which is exactly what is happening this time.

For the first couple of weekends in January there is 1tph Newcastle-York-London via the coast, and 1tph Darlington-York-Newcastle. The cheaper advance tickets are available on the Darlington trains, including RRB between Darlington and Newcastle.

Towards the end of January there's 1tph Newcastle-York-London and 1tph Durham-York-Newcastle, again with RRBs. I'd say Durham and an RRB may well be quicker than going up the Durham Coast tbh.
