Hi,

I need some more help...I need to travel from Coleshill Parkway to London next Friday; the anytime return is a whopping £155, so I'm looking for some alternatives.

I hold a season ticket from Market Harborough to Luton Airport Parkway

Travelling South I've got a good priced (£20) advance on the 8:05 from Coleshill (Change Nuneaton.)

Travelling North I think it will be much cheaper to travel via Leicester given I have the season ticket. I also can't really commit to an advance ticket as I'm unsure what time the journey will be;
Can I over-distance my season ticket to start from St Pancras?
Can I over-distance both ends of my season ticket? (If not I'll just buy a return from Mkt Hboro and use the return portion for my normal commute.)
Under the different scenarios will the train need to call at Luton Airport, Market Harborough or both (I don't think they would as the season would be the middle portion)
What would the costs by of the different options?
Presumably I need to do this before boarding to get through the barriers.

Many thanks in advance

For me it's coming up as £149 (route ANY PERMITTED) or £68 (route LDN MIDLAND ONLY), for what difference it makes.

If we just hold it there, perhaps I can interest you in an off-peak day single LDN MIDLAND ONLY from London Terminals to Coleshill Parkwy, which is valid on all services departing London Terminals after 0845, or a super off-peak single for £17.40 if your return journey isn't between 1630 and 1930. Or an off-peak single (SVH) for the full journey routed ANY PERMITTED is £22.15; you need to depart no earlier than 1859 (or possibly a little earlier again depending on which London terminal you use). I am not sure what the difference between this fare and the SVS (also off-peak single) at £43.30, which carries the exact same restriction code.

Yes you can.

No it won't, assuming your season ticket is valid for 7 days or longer. Naturally you have to travel on the midland main line.
What would the costs by of the different options?
That depends on when you travel. Give me a few minutes and I'll look it up.
Edit: If you aren't going to take the single tickets I suggested above, London Terminals to Luton Airport Parkway (anytime day single) is £12.50, or £8.25 if you have a gold card. Market Harborough to Coleshill is £16 (off-peak single).
Presumably I need to do this before boarding to get through the barriers.
It would be highly advisable, although there are circumstances under which you could do some of it on the train.
Many thanks in advance
You're welcome :)

I can't find the super off peak (£17.40) or the off peak single (£22.15) on NRE or London Midland websites, am I missing something obvious?

Assuming the fares are available, then I'm just paying for the extra comfort of EMT over London Midland as the journey times are pretty comparable. If the fares aren't there, then EMT is a no-brainer.

A SVH is a half price Saver (Off Peak) ticket which is only available to those buying an advance ticket who require flexibility for their return journey.

Is a London Midland Only ticket valid to Coleshill Parkway given London Midland don't run any trains between Birmingham and Coleshill?

I'm not sure about the prices for excess, but you might want to consider these options:

Rugby - Market Harborough Anytime Return Route Nuneaton £14.60

This ticket is valid routed Rugby - Coventry - Birmingham Stations - Nuneaton - Leicester - Market Harborough using maps BP+TV so you can start short at Coleshill.

Luton Airport Parkway - London Thameslink Anytime Day Return Route Any Permitted £21.00 or
Luton Airport Parkway - London Thameslink Anytime Return Route Any Permitted £21.50

Whilst I know FCC have penalty fares, I can't recall off-hand if EMT do. If they do you MUST buy the tickets for your entire journey before boarding a train, unless the facilities to do so are not available (e.g. the ticket office is closed), or your origin station is not part of the scheme .

SVH, formerly Saver Half, are only valid with an Advance ticket for the reverse journey and are not available from ticket offices.

Thanks for the Rugby tip...I do Coleshill to Market Harborough quite regularly, that's a saving that will soon add up.

I fear you need to travel just too early for the cheapest BUT not likely the quickest route, which would be to take advantage of the London Midland Great Escape offer (starts 19 Feb 11).

Euston to Nuneaton £10 (or an additional supplement of £5 if you’re leaving London Euston between 1540-1900hrs)

Nuneaton to Coleshill £5.30 Anytime Single
