Euston Underground Station.

Hello, and some questions from me that I hope some kind person can answer. I want to use the Victoria line in a week or so. I will be travelling from Euston Underground station out towards Walthamstow.
i) Does Euston underground station have a ticket office where I can speak to a human? Or
ii) If the office has been withdrawn how can I buy a Priv ticket?
iii) Is it worth buying a Priv ticket?

Do 'Priv' tickets, for those travelling via LU and who are eligible to purchase same, have to be booked at railway booking offices (only), also, if they are only available as paper tickets, would using PAYG be any cheaper?

You might have left it too late...
Depending on what sort of "priv" you have (and hence if you can get priv underground fares at all) it is very worthwhile to use it. However I think that now privs might only be available via a priv Oyster (and that gets you the Oyster discount on top too.)

A standard cash fare is £6.30, whereas an oyster/contactless fare is 3.60 peak and 2.90 off peak. If it was me I wouldn't bother if there was any hassle at all in getting a priv, even if I end up paying a bit more.

Paper Priv tickets for single/return journeys wholly on LU were axed a few years ago. In any case they were only available for Safeguarded staff [and their spouse/dependents] and dependent children of TfL/LU staff. NR stations can issue these tickets, to the appropriate U-Zones, however again these still only available for Safeguarded staff.

If you have a Safeguarded Priv then you can apply for approval to obtain Priv discount via this form on the RDG/Rail Staff Travel website: https://www.raildeliverygroup.com/files/Publications/services/rst/RST_XX19_TfLPrivOyster.html. Once approved you take the requisite approval to a member of staff in the ticket hall at most LU stations, who can activate the applicable discount.

If you are not Safeguarded, or cannot be bothered with the fuss of this, you could consider buying a ticket from South Hampstead to Wood Street, as both Euston and Walthamstow Central are valid interchange stations for this National Rail journey. This costs £2.15 single or £3.45 for a day return. You'd have to buy this at a NR ticket office, or if you are eligible, via the RST on-line site.

Thank you very much for the replies. Even though I am "safeguarded", as my trip is hopefully a one off, I think I will forgo the pleasures listed above and stump up the cash. Sorry too that I put the post in the wrong forum!

There aren't any remaining ticket offices on the Underground. Customer service staff generally float around the TVMs and can do a lot of what the ticket office used to do, such as adding railcard discounts to oyster cards, but I'm not sure if they'd be able to issue a Priv fare.

Whilst London Underground no longer sell Priv tickets, any National Rail ticket office should be able to issue a Priv ticket from London Terminals (NLC 1072) to Zone U123 (NLC 0791).

If travelling beyond Walthamstow Central or Blackhorse Road on London Overground, the ticket needs to be issued to cover the relevant zones. So St James Street would be issued as Zone U123 - St James Street; Wood Street and Highams Park with Zone U1234 (NLC 0792) as the origin; and Chingford with Zone U1245 (NLC 0065) as the origin.

How do they stand if they want to leave the LU network before getting to the interchange station?

They wouldn’t be, as Walthamstow is the interchange point between LU and NR services.


In any case, even if it isn’t an interchange station for a cross-London transfer, whereby the standard rules apply that you can finish short at any station on a reasonable route between applicable interchange stations, but you cannot resume the cross-London transfer on the same ticket.

They can't issue a priv fare, but they can add the priv discount to an Oyster card if you have the approved form (or renew it each year)
