At the risk of duplicating something buried in the megathread in the Stations section.

I wanted to ask if anyone has any insight about this?

Changes seem to have been demanded by the government after a media swirl, but there must be reasons why it was done that way in the first place.

Have they just moved the problem closer to the platforms?

It never helped matters when they moved the departure boards.

On two trips through Euston this week (one outbound and one inbound) it did seem to be working better than the recent norm, with the concourse busy but not rammed.

For my outbound journey, I arrived about 15 minutes before departure time, the platform number was already on the boards and there was a moderate queue for the ticket check on the ramp. That took a few minutes to get through, so I was on board about 10 minutes before departure, with good time to find an unreserved seat. The train was pretty full, and judging from people walking up the aisle, it was boarding right up until departure time.

Generally a better experience than some of my recent ones there.

I used Euston in-bound yesterday morning and out-bound yesterday afternoon.

In-bound did not seem that much different to normal, however it wasn't being helped by the choir on one side of the walkway towards the tube and the RBL stand on the other, and all the servicemen with their collection buckets. I do underand why they were there however.

Out-bound at around 1600 did seem a bit better, but it was noticeable that many people didn't realise that there were train details posted on the opposite side of the one display that only shows an "notice", at the upper numberer end. There was a bit of a rush towards the Edinburgh train as soon as the platform was posted but this was possibly because the previous one had been cancelled, but there wasn't the same scrum on the ramp to 13/14, especially as they weren't bothering to check tickets.

Overall it did feel better.

The recent onslaught of "i'm seen to be doing something" seems to do nothing to take into account that the main problems occur when there is any sort of (all too frequent) disruption to the service, not during the normal day to day ops.

There are certainly problems in day to day operations, particularly with WMT services.

Indeed, but tweaking things to how they should be managed day to day doesn't escape the mass of people that occurs when all TOCs have a service disruption caused by the repetitive infrastructure issues. As well as day to day passenger flows, attention also needs to go back to managing flows during disruption, and for that matter, not taking all day to recover the service. We used to "ramp" passengers for outgoing services ready for boarding, to get them off the concourse & to get less mobile passengers ready to go.
