Eurostar electrical fault....

I travelled from Lille back to Ebbsfleet this evening by Eurostar- we were held for half an hour at Lille due to "electronic problems with the power car", and during this time, air-con etc shutdowns indicated that lots of things were being reset. Eventually we went on our way as normal, up to 186mph in France, usual tunnel speeds. However we were told that due to "operational reasons" as a result of our power car problems we would have to travel on HS1 at a much reduced speed.

My question is why was there such a speed limit imposed in the UK- the train seemed to be performing OK in France after this announcement had been made.

HS1 is reasonably hilly compared to LGV Nord isn't it? Could just be that with a duff power car speed was reduced to lack of power on the slopes? The power cars also, as I understand it, have rheostatic braking- possibly this was out on the broken bit as well, meaning that they wouldn't want to speed up downhill too much.

On the french side the diagrams are very tight compared with HS1, so no choice in france, but to thrash on.
Usually able take easy on this side of the channel so can take is easy back to SPX.
Also remember these old gals are getting on a bit and spares must be running low at TMI after all the recent short circuits etc.
