Eurostar delays - 16/01/2013

I'm due to travel on Eurostar train 9116, the 0858 to Lille. There are currently severe delays due to weather conditions. I'm also due to travel on TGV 5028, the 1303 to Marne-la-Vallée.

Does TRUST pick up delays for Eurostar??

On a similar subject, I'm travelling on Eurostar to Brussels then on to Germany on an ICE Saturday. It's a 20 minute connection so with the forecast snow I may not make it. The next train to Cologne (3 hours later) is a Thalys. My ticket is valid only for the 14.25 ICE but if the connection is missed can I use it on Thalys and if so do I need to get it authorised somewhere before boarding? Same with the next leg from Cologne to Mannheim which will also mean a later connection.

I am not sure if you need to have ticket endorsed at the ticket office or not but that says you can use the next service. When my ICE in Cologne was cancelled my ticket was endorsed at the ticket office to allow me on the Thalys to Brussels.

Last summer, I had the same 20 minute connection in Brussels between inbound Eurostar and onward ICE to Germany. You can get from one train to other is less than 10 minutes. 5 mins if you hurry.

Tip: as the Eurostar approaches Brussels move as far forward to the front of train as you can go. If you alight from the front carriage, you'll be close the exit. You probably see others doing the same !

When I last travelled on this route the 14.25 ICE was cancelled and passengers could get their ticket endorsed at the SNCB/NMBS ticket office on the concourse. The staff told passengers to get the IC to Verviers from where buses ran to Aachen Hbf (as the wait for the train would have been 1 1/2 hours) for a connecting RE train to Köln Hbf. I expect buses may not be run for a few Eurostar passengers though and you may have to wait for the Thalys. The stamp in Brussels then authorised me to catch the next available ICE from Köln to my destination - on-board staff were happy with this as soon as they saw the Railteam delay stamp.

Ha, when I did that 20 minute connection at Brussels last month...got to the ICE platform in good time. No indication of if or when the train might be. Downstairs, the departure board stated (not particularly helpfully) "Train leaves from another station" (alternating between English, French and Dutch). The ticket office people made clear the "other station" concerned was Brussels North - - so we all had to get a local train to there to await the late-running ICE.

I definitely recommend using the "connections" stairway at Brussels South, rather than going all the way to the exit at the front of the platform. As well as being less busy, it's a lot more direct.

I had an incredibly tight connection at Lille today. I caught TGV 5277 (1535 Marne-la-Vallée to Lille), which lost fifty minutes due to speed restrictions as a result of snow. This was due to arrive at Lille at 1639, but didn't arrive until 1728. I was then booked to travel on Eurostar 9149 (1735(!) to London), so had SEVEN minutes. Luckily we just made check-in in a few minutes and as it happened 9149 was running fifteen minutes late anyway so was all good (although that train arrived in London thirty-five minutes late, again due to speed restrictions because of the snow).
