European Class 66's to UK

Not only is 66316 still in Akiem grey livery but it is still numbered 266015: Surprising that it has not been repainted at Loughborough, but is something special lined up for this one? Being the last of the imported European locos, it would be very nice to see it in a European livery, perhaps the livery that it is in but just "GBRf-erised" !!

Its off to Longport to get the cab windows replaced with the upgraded style that have been retro fitted to all of GBs older 66s...

This is the only older 66 (JT42CWR)* in this batch of locos being hired to GB... all others are the low emission, 5 door models

Longport is, to my knowledge, the only place that has ever completed these works, anywhere in Europe... and GB being the only operator to have the work done to their locos, to help improve conditions for drivers


* I think I'm right in saying the ex Euro 77s and euro 66 low emission models from akiem, here, were all the JT42CWRM version

69008 is on its way from Eastleigh to Longport according to a friend. I wonder if that is bringing 66316 to Eastleigh for its paint job ?.

For information 66316 is visible at EMD Long port at this time. Euro number 266 015-7 on front. 66768, 66307 and 66755 + 69007 also visible.

I saw it yesterday outside Longport depot.
You can see it from passing trains, but I couldn't be sure, so I got off at Longport. The best way is to walk up Longbridge Hayes Rd, which is adjacent to the northbound platform, as far as the footbridge over the railway. There are a few gaps in the hedge on the way, where you can just about see numbers, but you'll need a pair of binoculars.

After it's Drax trips 316 finally ventured into the Midlands. Having been unable to catch it at Saltley on Monday I finally caught it at Kingsbury running around it's train prior to departure. Last 66. Like the livery.
