Liverpool Airport is mostly budget airlines with heavy demand for early morning departures and late night arrivals. Allowing for check-in times the rail network cannot service these travellers, for example the first trains on Merseyrail are around 6am. So public transport probably isn't an option if your flight is before 9am. Liverpool South Parkway has regular service bus links (80A 86A) to the airport with a journey time around 15/20 minutes but over the years since LPY opened several dedicated direct buslinks have been withdrawn, presumably because of lack of passengers. However, what might help as a first step is a ticketing facility at the airport for a bus/train through ticket, currently you cannot even buy a Merseyside dayticket at the airport on arrivaL
Bus services to LJLA are run exclusively by Arriva who at various times have introduced/changed/withdrawn servicesdespite the airport growing in passenger numbers each year. Since Jet 2 arrived two years ago both easyJet and Ryanair have halted the decline in the number of services offered and are adding new destinations served. Does Arriva have a contract with the airport? For a short time they operated a 700 from Manchester and a 501 using bendi buses from South Parkway which was replaced by diverting route 500. This soon stopped and we are left with the direct 500, 82A (Runcorn to Liverpool), 80A and 86A to the City Centr by different routes, 81A to Bootle and 89 to St Helens which meanders round Woolton, Belle Vale and Huyton before raching its destination. At least under franchising the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority have introduced the X3 from St Helens which runs on a mote direct route than the 89. Let us hope that it is successful.

When bus franchising kicks in within the Liverpool City Council area then (essentially) all the LJLA bus services will be revised to become Metro services (as per St Helens now and Wirral later this month). It is likely that there will be changes as it is well known that the current connectivity is not good enough.

Liverpool John Lennon airport is currently enjoying record passenger numbers, partly because Manchester airport is "full" and partly because Manchester airport offers a very poor experience.

Not for much longer!

The 500 has its frequency doubled this summer, I’d expect that to remain under franchising tbh

In terms of Manchester - I wonder if they can ramp up capacity on the tram network to Trafford Bar, and then close some nearby roads to create a safe walking route to the stadium.
The Manchester games are at the Etihad, not Old Trafford.

Ah, then perhaps operate the East Didsbury and Altrincham branches as shuttles to and from St Werburgh's Road/Old Trafford on Etihad match days, and run as many trams as possible an hour Manchester Airport - stops to Deansgate - Piccadilly - Etihad

Will Etihad still be a football ground then?
Naughty, but I was going to post something similar!

City in the Conference could use the small stadium, and the main stadium could go back to athletics for the 2036 North of England Olympics.

Can it even be converted back into an athletics stadium? I seem to recall they moved one of the end stands inwards after the Commonwealth Games.

It's probably a little farfetched, but one thing to remember is that the main stadium belongs to the City Council rather than the club. Though I suspect nobody else would be prepared to cough up as much in rent as City do.

Will the "dispute" be settled by then ? If City lose the "independent appeal", their next step might involve the courts...............
