Yes, but it takes a while. Jutland is a *very* rural part of the country!

Hirtshals harbour is by the station, served by a private railway (http://www.njba.dk/) from Hjørring, that connects pretty much hourly from the Aalborg train. So, from Esbjerg, you'd need to change at Fredericia, and possibly also Aalborg, depending on whether or not there's a through train. You'd also need to get to Esbjerg station, although IIRC there is a shuttle bus for the ferry.

There is through ticketing, and it's not especially cheap. As the bulk of the journey is on regional trains, I don't think there's an "Orange" (advance) fare available, so the cheapest would be with a Rejsekort smart card, but these are a real pain to get if you don't have a Danish CPR-nummer.

:lol:Great! Sounds nice and complicated!!! Because I'm going from Harwich to Esjerg then somehow to Hirtshals then on to Faroe Islands for 2-3 days of hiking then onto Iceland where we will take a bus to Rekjavik and do hiking excursions from there!!! 3 weeks trip at least then !

Finished in 2007 I'm afraid.

That's exactly why you now have to go to Hirtshals. Smyril line (for whatever reason - but presumbaly because they only use one ship) cut out UK and Norway from the itinerary.

Hmmm, fastest journey Esbjerg - Hirtshals = 5 hours 26 mins...

I'm just back from Reykjavík (I know this is a bit off topic!) - but if you're looking for public transport around town, use the Straeto buses. They are absolutely fantastic and good value. PM me if you want any info about them :)
