Epping Ongar Railway 29 July

Good evening,

I am hoping to visit the Epping Ongar Railway next Saturday 29 July, I understand that it is generally operated as 2 seperate journeys to Coopersale & Ongar, but there appears to be a "Through" working, leaving Coopersale at 1235, arriving Ongar 1258, departing Ongar 1305 and getting back back to Coopersale at 1333.

Would I be correct in assuming that the 1225 from North Weald that arrives at Coopersale 1223, then forms the 1225 departure as there is no platform there & I assume no run around either.?

Are their trains top and tailed or are there run rounds/passing places at North Weald & Ongar.?

Finally are any decent pubs that do lunch time/afternoon food in Epping, North Weald or Ongar? and approx how long does the Central line take to get there from Stratford.....It's not a part of the UK that I have ever been to before.

I have visited the railway twice since it reopened.
The service is normally operated in two sections Coopersale to North Weald and North Weald to Ongar.
There is no platform at Coopersale so the two minutes there is merely for the train to stop before going back thus for example 1223 arrival forms the 1225 back.
There are two platforms at North Weald but unsure if it is fully signalled for passing trains. Certainly trains start from both platforms.
At Ongar there is only one platform.
At Ongar I found a good pub called "The Cock Tavern" in the High Street ( the village is actually called Chipping Ongar) a short walk from the station. It has appeared in the "Good Beer Guide"
I am unaware of a good pub in North Weald and the pubs at Epping are a long walk from the station.
The Central Line takes approx. 35 minutes from Liverpool Street to Epping. From outside Epping Station there is a heritage bus service to North Weald.

Coopersdale end is currently not operational due to track conditions, not sure if it will be open next week.

Today, alternative out and back services from North Weald to Ongar were steam/diesel, 4141 on load 4 and 25173 on the 3-CIG with 50 minute layovers at North Weald and running round at both ends. Not guaranteed to make the +5 "connection" from one train to another at North Weald either, about 50/50 hit rate from what I saw this afternoon.

According to sources the line should fully reopen on the 2nd August. You may wish to delay your trip until after that date. Check the web site for updates and buying tickets for your trip, which will be cheaper than buying on the day.

Thank you all for the information and news about the Coopersale line being closed for repairs until next month. I think I will therefore delay my visit until a later date.

I May try the Mid-Hants/Watercress line instead as SWT don't seem to have engineering works this coming weekend so should be easy to get to.

The track works have been completed and the line to Coopersale is up and running.

I do recommend the Epping Ongar. Had a great time there yesterday. Nice to have a preserved line so close to London.
