Well I said I'd report back on the day if we went on it, we did today, and it was great.
The lads down there are all friendly, and patient if you make any mistakes !
The wife and I very much enjoyed the day and learnt loads.
We both got to drive the Hunslett diesel shunter "Louise" and the Peckett 0-6-0T "Mardy Monster", light engine, with a brake van on, and with two coaches on.
There's a reasonable incline on the way back up to the Elsecar centre so you can get the locos working a bit.
Many railways don't run their experience days in the Winter, which we think may actually be the best time to do one because the cab of a steam loco can get pretty hot !
The Elsecar line may not have a long route or be particularly fast, but at £480 for the pair of us we thought it was well worth it.
Thoroughly recommended.
