I was at Edinburgh Waverley station on Tuesday and while in the waiting room, I noticed the two travel centres. I didn't go in as I had an advance ticket but from what I could see, in the one that was open there was a counter with several positions as well as a number of LNER ticket machines. According to the signage, there is another travel centre for Advanced tickets and reservations. You walk past this to access the toilets and so I had a look through the windows to see a deserted area, similar to the open travel centre, with a number of positions. The lights were off and I could see an installation on the far wall for leaflets or timetables but it was empty so it seems as though it is no longer in use.

Have LNER now decided to permenantly close the advanced ticket travel centre? Did this occur prior to Covid or did it shut during lockdown and has never reopened? Can you purchase advance tickets from the open travel centre if you wish to?

Are there any other travel centres for advance tickets open or have they all been closed now that most people buy them online?

I believe that there was a flood from above relatively recently resulting in the closure of the advance ticketing area. I've heard rumours that if the immediate travel desks can also cope with the advance options adequately then the advance desks may not reopen.

NB just hearsay on my part - but it did come from staff who work there.

There is part of me that hopes it doesn't reopen, rather than having to split staff amongst two different areas they now have more positions in the main travel centre open all this was my experience a couple of weeks ago anyway when I popped in to buy why a couple of walk up tickets for a journey in the southeast prior to boarding for service for which I already had an e-ticket on the relevant app

Edinburgh are only using the "Immidiate travel " section of the Travel Centre now. You can get tickets for today and Advance tickets there. Nothng to do with the flood and the other section won't be reopening.

Oh right, so had it been open since the lockdowns?

Good decision but I'm wondering what made them make it

I wonder what will happen to that area now, staff only or maybe conversion to retail
