Hi All,

Is there a better way of doing Edinburgh Waverley to Greenock (Central or West). I need to do this trip at peak times couple of times a week and at £27.20 per return ticket, I'd like to check if there are any alternatives :)

Thanks

Can you use the super cheap twice a day XC fare?

What time is a "peak" time? It may be "off peak" by the time you get to somewhere en-route?

Quite possibly. This leaves Edinburgh at 0726 and gets to Central at 0824. The return is at 2048 from Central.

If leaving earlier than that, a single on XC (£1.90 standard or £2.70 first class) plus a single on East Coast may work (£9.80 standard single).

Glasgow to Greenock is £5.85 after 0900, or £8.05 before that.

So it can be brought down from a ludicrous rip-off £27.20 to £17.55.

Many people wouldn't know this and would drive instead. The fares in this country are daft and designed to put people onto the roads.

The XC/EC fares can be bought on board the trains.

Wow thanks for the quick replies guys.

I need to be in the office for 9am, so alas the 7:26 is bit too late for that :(

The usual split here would be at the SPT boundary, rather than Glasgow Central, that should be the cheapest option
Just check where the train stops
Examples :
Gourock - Croy / Croy - Edinburgh
Gourock - Shotts / Shotts - Edinburgh

Equally, if you are travelling regularly, consider the 10 ticket option between Glasgow and Edinburgh
