I'd argue that any transfers to East Coast or Lothian Country should be buses with plenty of years left to ensure they last. No point swapping them for buses that'll then be removed from service the next year or two. Looking at 1051-1062, they could last another 7/8 years.
I agree, and it’s why I would suggest 497-510 as replacements for 937-950. That would completely standardise the ECB fleet as well. Assuming 936 is indeed the paint float, it’s why I wouldn’t include 496. If it’s not a float, then I would also send 496.

Lothian Country will likely gain 551-570 in the long term in my honest opinion. Not the best options, but certainly realistic and again would standardise the fleet. They’d probably need a small batch of B5TL’s to work alongside them and I think any of the earlier ones from the 401-437 range would probably do a good enough job. Again, who knows what size Lothian Country will be by then as well. Bigger, smaller? Who knows.

That sounds like a good option, although I think that 401-404 & 460-425 are more likely to move to either East coast buses and Lothian Country than some of 351-385 like you said as it would give a bit of extra service time for them as they would only be a year younger than 937-950 at East Coast Buses.

For Lothian Country, some of the ex London buses may be better suited to the routes and the native B9TLs could remain at Lothian or East Coast Buses until the second lot of electric buses allows for them to be withdrawn.

Ok, so people have said my changes aren’t the best, so I’ve made some adjustments;

BZLs newly introduced - fleet numbers span from 301-350
301-315 go to Longstone
316-325 go to Central
326-350 go to Marine

ECB 926-950 withdrawn & replaced by 401-425, with 401-425 being replaced with 326-350

LCB 841-850 withdrawn & replaced by 426-437, with 426-437 being replaced by 316-325

1141-1153 withdrawn & replaced by 496-510, with 496-510 replaced by 301-315

Absolutely not, they can barely manage a tame route like the 200 without every mechinical part failing. They’d be absolutely humped on something like the X6

Its a bit far fetched having all 3 depots with them. Bear in mind we have 4 electric buses and a handful of chargers, the infrastructure for these will need to all be built and for the first batch of them its much more practical having it centralised at one depot than drips and drabs of chargers across multiple. 2 depots at a push but its most likely all will go to the same one

I’m not suggesting them for being poor buses. I’m stating that they are likely candidates based off the fact that’s it’s highly likely ECB will need a similar number of buses. Those are needing a repaint and then it all adds up too conveniently.

Why are they bad? Are they any different to the 2016 or 2018 batch?
Lothian Country currently has the 2017-plate Hybrids which I'd have thought would be from a similar production run to the 2017 straight diesel chassis mentioned as quoted, which going by the lack of complaints on here seem to be doing fine?

Who knows why but they break down all the time. No different mechanically to any other batches

if all 50 BZLs go to central then I believe that would make the majority of central's fleet 5 years or younger, which can't be said for the other depots.

Oh.
Are the routes particularly demanding?
200 the only higher speed section is Maybury to the Airport.
400 has Gyle Centre to Airport and also Fairmilehead to Kaimes, plus quite a few steep hills, but nothing that the 2018 batch at East Coast doesn't also regularly get.
Maybe just a poor batch from Volvo then.

I think the issue is more that they’ve been used 24/7 while at Central for the Airlink, and now many are still doing 20 hour days at Longstone without really getting days lying in the depot. At the minute normally the ones in the depot are having work done and there’s not really ever a proper ‘spare bus’.

Going to ECB wouldn’t probably help them mechanically in the long term, but I go back to my original point and that was that it makes operational sense for ECB to streamline their fleet to Gemini3’s/Eclipse3’s only. These Skylinks are also in bad need of a repaint now with many looking tired and there’s not really any other Gemini3’s that meet that criteria.

The discussion about what fleet numbers the new Lothian BZLs would receive was pure speculation (especially as they've only just been ordered) and it was moved into this thread for that reason.

We regularly get reports about speculative posts in the main Lothian thread because people want to read about stuff that's actually happening.

If anyone feels that the thread is going off-topic, please do not engage in a lengthy discussion about it here; report the relevant post and we can decide on the relevant action to take.

You are welcome to start a new thread to discuss a topic that doesn't quite fit with any of the existing threads.

Appreciate that, but from my perspective this thread was set up specifically for the route discussion across the area (any operator) and not really for nothing else. The subject of which was overwhelming the main thread significantly. Especially with the complete fantasy ideas.

Fleet numbers and other general fleet speculation I think would be a tricky one to accommodate in this thread; and from my view not having anything speculative at all in the main Lothian thread makes it absolutely pointless. News and other general discussion in a bus environment is likely to always involve some element of speculation. Eg if a batch of buses go for repaint I would say it’s reasonable to suggest which livery buses are going into. It’s for the same reason I think suggesting fleet numbers (and other closely related things) should belong in the normal thread and not here, or in its own tiny thread, so long as it doesn’t drag on. What I would define as logical suggestive posts. Ie things that could happen should be permitted in the main thread, while things that probably won’t absolutely shouldn’t.

If you really look around you’ll probably find the news before it reaches the main Lothian thread, which for me is now essentially just a delayed compilation section for everything. From speaking to others, it doesn’t serve any benefit to a good few readers of that thread. The Edinburgh Buses and Trams Facebook page is usually much faster than the forum is these days, which never used to be the case. It’s like anything though, some will prefer it that way, but I am one of those who doesn’t.

Just my take on things. I’m sure others will agree and disagree with many or all of my points.

It's time to simplify matters.

Any discussion relating to Lothian Buses and associated operations should go here:

If anyone wishes to discuss the former operations of First, now McGill's, in the Lothian area this is the thread to use:

There is also a thread for independent operators in the Lothians:

If anyone wishes to post an idea about a new route, variations to an existing route, the fleet numbers that should be allocated once a particular order is fulfilled etc., please feel free to start a new thread.
