I knew this would happen - it doesn't appear to be as cheap any more (& takes longer than present) to get to York from Stevenage in the new timetable. EC are now booking until 28 May so Advance tickets are available for the first week of the eureka timetable.
In the new timetable, other than the 2-hourly york stoppers there are no direct services from Stevenage to York (& none through to anywhere north of York other than very early morning trains).
Just checked some advance single fares for 24 & 25 May. As they only went on sale this morning there should be good availability for most services.
SVG to Leeds : widely available for £8.90 (but for some reason no Advance fares at all on the 18:15 Leeds to Stevenage service) - so no change from the present with travel to Leeds.
SVG to Doncaster : widely available for £8.45
SVG to York: a right mixture of fares.
There is the odd £8.90 single - mainly by using the Newark stopper & changing at Peterborough.
Using the Leeds service & change on the XC at doncaster : £33.80 (SVG to Doncaster for same train is £8.45) some show up as £70. So would now generally be cheaper to get advances to Doncaster & a walk-on Doncaster-York return.
For some reason there are generally no advance fares shown for the northbound EC York stoppers. Is this a glitch, as there are fares for the southbound ones. Fares are shown for the Newark stoppers in both directions.
If I specify Stevenage to Durham or Newcastle it does give an advance fare for using the York stopper & changing at Peterborough. No fares are shown northbound for a through journey on the same train from Stevenage to any other station the stopper calls at (e.g. to Retford or York) even though this is the only direct service provided in the new timetable. they are available southbound.
