The photographs of the 'dignitaries' at East Kilbride look very odd, almost as if they've just been photoshopped in. Obviously they were there so no reason for them to have been but very odd.
They definitely look edited, over-sharpened at least. Not sure why they would need that done though.

There was a report on the STV News at 6 (probably the Glasgow edition) - see here.
Diesel-powered trains are set to operate 25% of services on a newly electrified ScotRail line between Glasgow Central and East Kilbride.

The train operator has said that 75% of services on the £144m electrified line will be operated by electric trains, marking a “significant step forward in Scotland’s ongoing rail decarbonisation programme”.

Modern, electric four-carriage class 380 trains will replace the current four-carriage class 156 diesel trains on the East Kilbride route.

Six-carriage class 156 trains will also continue to operate.

Sad to say that they are not of the best quality. The lighting at Thornliebank was very poor and the unit at Shaws West was not quite in focus possibly due to camera shake as I had been standing about for a half hour in the cold. Yes basically Historical shots no more than that. Thanks for your comments though and hopefully come Sunday the sun will be higher and brighter and I am in a more open area.
Thanks again

That is a good question which I have pondered myself!
glad I wasn't the only one! The other strange neutral section in Glasgow is on Larkhall line just before Haughhead Junction. Furthermore, it was mentioned as being added to the line in January this year. I've heard there's meant to be a new feeder station coming in at Newton but can't see how Haughhead Junction OHNS fits with that. Haughhead to Motherwell connects to Motherwell to Newton which is joined to Newton to Haughton.

Possibly to allow the Larkhall line to be isolated independently?

It can't be doing that either as, although the diagram is a bit unclear, the mileages seem to suggest the neutral section is on the glasgow side of the junction on HMN line only and not at all on the LRK line

considering it was only Jan this year, it's possible we're in the middle of something and maybe they'd add another neutral section perhaps at Newton on the Hamilton Line which would make it make sense.
potentially the case for the Cathcart line although it's been two years at least

They should be trying to move to DCO/DOO as quickly as they can, ahead of the replacement suburban fleets coming in.

AIUI Strathclyde manning agreement permits electric services within Strathclyde to run as DOO, but when Scotrail tried to introduce DOO on services to Barrhead on electric services were introduced, staff threatened to strike and the plan was abandoned

The Strathclyde Manning Agreement was updated in December 2024. A 2nd member of staff MUST be on the train now or the driver can refuse to take it. This resulted in ScotRail recruiting over 150 additional Ticket Examiners to ensure all Strathclyde electrics have a 2nd person all the time.

This was a welcome change and ensures anyone with reduced mobility can turn up and go at any station.
