E3 Series shinkansen

Hi there

Having had the amazing experience to travel on two Japan's E3 series shinkansens up to a town called Kakunodate ( on the way to Akita) back in October 2006, I recently found out about the E3 series being replaced in 2013, by the duck nosed E6 series. Can someone enlighten me on what is happening to my favourite shinkansens?

Scrapped.

Shinkansen train sets have an average lifetime of 15 years before they are replaced. This allows JR to operate the service without any big faults generated by ageing trains.

Punctuality to the second has it's price.

Secondly... A shinkansen set does more miles in 15 years then a Eurostar will ever do in 30 years and Shinkansen sets have a harder life on the Shinkansen lines then European HST's because they have to accelerate and brake much faster, which causes more structural damage to the train.
