Howdy Do everyone!

I am now becoming a bit curious after months of debate on weather to put up a post so here it goes! :-P

I was wondering what is the easiest way to become a fully trained train driver without going through a TOP?

I'm sure there must be a way of obtaining a 'Driving License' without training with the company and being in tonnes of simulators and paper work!

Thats all!

Cheers!

Quite simply - you can't.

It really has to be with a TOC or FOC due to a few reasons. You can get a few things, such as the drivers assessment (which can be done through EWS at Doncaster for £250 IIRC) and a few other bits and bobs, but other than that it's wise to do through a TOC.

Nope. Not a chance.

The only way you'll become a fully qualified driver is to go through a driving training program with a TOC or FOC (assuming you get through the driver assessment, meet the medical standards and secure a place on a course). Even then, it isn't guaranteed that you'll pass out.

paper work is every toc's fav thing, not all toc's use simulators silverlink dont, all the handling and driving is done on the main line or carriage sidddings.
