If you have a driver who has PCV entitlement on their licence but their CPC has expired, do they need to sit through the full 35 hours training before they can operate back in service? I remember there was something about only have to complete 7 hours of training initially but don’t know if this still applies. If it does still apply, is there a deadline when the remaining 28 hours needs to be completed?

Thanks

Taking a Return to Driving CPC course

You can take a Return to Driving CPC course if your Driver CPC expired less than 2 years ago.

If your Driver CPC has not expired or expired fewer than 60 days ago, you’ll get 7 hours of international training added to your record.

If you want to drive in the UK:

  • complete the 7-hour Return to Driving CPCcourse
  • you can start driving professionally as soon as your training provider has recorded the training
  • you must also complete 28 further hours of Driver CPC training within 12 months of finishing the course to stay qualified
If you do not complete 28 hours of further training in your first year, you will not be able to continue driving professionally in the UK.

If you search on Google there is plenty of places doing return to driving CPC training and that allows you to return to driving after 7 hours. Your remaining hours must be completed within 12 months to continue driving.
