OK! Point is that dual supply requires considerably less equipment than dual voltage.

It does, you're right but the problems with the current stock is placing the pantograph, it can't go in the middle because of the equipment on top, if it went towards the front and back then you're reducing head height inside to accomodate it. And where then would wires go to take it down to the traction motors?

New stock orders would be easier to do and design to accomodate but again the cost of putting up wires when there is no need actually negates any benefits.

I went through the woolwich tunnel last night and that's also gonna be a tight fit for any wires so with all these issuesn not to mention the design of the wiq pop triangle wiring I don't see any need to wire it up.

How does the cost of elevated rail running above the street compare to tunneling? Even if it is cheaper would they ever explore the cost of extending in further into central London as an el?

I suppose people tend to hate elevated rail in city centres away as it darkens the streets and creates a fare bit of noise for people on above the ground.

The suggestion in the past has been for the DLR to extend westwards, beyond Bank, to the old Jubilee Line platforms at Charing Cross. The timescale for this is unclear, though TfL and the DLR both told me it's well into the future, namely 20-25 years. The tunnels in the Charing Cross area would need to be enlarged to take the DLR trains and a side walkway, as well as the refurbishment of the station tunnels and provision of lifts.

This is probably easier than trying to go to Euston, simply because the station tunnel(s) already exist, though they need enlarging. This option is also better from a passenger point of view, as currently from Euston or Kings Cross, to reach the docklands requires only one change of train (Northern Line - DLR at bank) wheras going from Charing Cross to the Docklands requires two changes of train, either Northern or Bakerloo from Charing cross to Embankment, then Circle or District to Monument, then walk to the DLR at Bank.

So, making the DLR extension from Bank to Charing Cross would be better for the passenger.

But as I have mentioned before about going to Charing cross is that cross rail will take all those journeys so there will be no point in spending vast amounts of money to duplicate a journey 50 yards up the road.

Oh and I'd change at Tottenham court road to get to bank.

I've heard this aswell, but it seems pretty pointless, bearing in mind that the only existing asset that would be used would be one/both platforms and the overrun tunnels (beyond the former jubilee platforms there) which are only around 8 cars long, and by the sounds of it would need enlarging anyway.

Never mind overhead, but I'd love to see the DLR running on street, like a proper metro system as per Manchester/Croydon/etc.

Why though? Its pretty unique in the UK with it being a largely elevated railway through its main core route.

Also Im unsure how feasible it would be to do street running as you would always have to have the PSA doing driving duties on these sections which would then negate the rest of the role of the PSA - who do interact a lot with passengers outside of just ticket checking

Something wrong with using the Northern or Bakerloo to Waterloo and then the Jubilee to either Canary Wharf or Canning Town...

...or even the *direct* 15 bus?

I can't really see the point in making all the effort to extend the DLR to Euston. Is it really to much effort to change at Bank onto the Northern Line in order to get to Euston?

Personally I would much rather see the existing underground lines extended out into the SE of London, than the DLR. You could extend the Victoria Line from Brixton; Bakerloo Line from Elephant & Castle; even reusing the old Jubilee Line spur from Charing Cross...

To Croydon? Perhaps even turning NW from Croydon with stations at Mitcham and Tooting Broadway
