Hi all, I had an interview for role of northern dispatch and passed the interview and medical and have a start date, starting in a few weeks, I was just wondering what does the classroom training consist of, having to travel to Manchester for, so really unsure what I’m in for really, any information would be appreciated

Been a long time since I did it, but you’ll be covering the part of the rule book applicable to train dispatch. Hand signals, lights, right away etc…not alot to it. Youll also do a company induction usually. My induction had all grades of staff, admin, drivers, dispatch, guards, booking office etc…..Consider yourself lucky, when I did mine I had to travel from London to Birmingham daily! Put me in a hotel towards the end thankfully!

For a different TOC, but I had 2 and a half weeks of classroom, then on sent to my work station and had to do 3 weeks of shadowing another dispatcher, then rules assessment. Classroom times was the same for everyone, but the shadowing varied by station, most only had 5 days but as I was at a fairly complex hub with secondary duties we got longer.

In the classroom, You will have a some generic company training. Introduction, diversity and inclusion, Customer service, conflict management ect. Then around a week of actual dispatcher training. Dont know specifics of northen but I cant imagine its going to vary much from what I experienced.

Its more to learn than most people think, but ultimately its nothing particularly challenging or difficult, just takes some getting used too.
