different ENCTS rules for elderly and disabled

Hello, in this thread, I intend to refer to 'normal' disabled ENCTS passes, not the blind and/or companion ones.

With the changes SYPTE are considering they are proposing a differential between elderly and disabled passes.

As I understand it (but please correct me if I'm wrong) this will be the first example where the disabled and the elderly are treated differently.

In general at present, disabled passes for people approaching women's state pension age (currently approx 62.5) expire the day before they are eligible for a blue pass.

Not issuing yellow (non companion, non blind) passes after age 62.5 makes administration easier, as for the yellow passes medical evidence is required.

Any thoughts, please?

I believe Dorset is or used be one. It's not something I follow that closely but it's bits I've picked up from work.

Leicestershire used to, but recently cut back (rightly as the main argument against was how are disable people meant to get their (paid) jobs without free bus travel

Manchester has the blue Freedom pass and then two yellow ones - concessionary (travel after 9.30am, same as the blue passes) and concessionary plus which was travel any time.

It may have changed slightly since I stopped driving buses but that was only a year ago so shouldn't have seen any significant alterations.

Tyne and Wear - for those with CT passes issued locally and ENCTS, allowed on buses between 09.30 and 23.00. For the disabled, this is valid all day.

For the Shields Ferry, both groups have to pay 60p for a ticket. However the same rules apply for hours of validity (i.e. those with CT passes who are not disabled can only travel after 09.30, before that they have to pay the adult fare).

For Northern services between Newcastle and MetroCentre/Blaydon, the fare is 50p. Same rules apply regarding times for validity.

Those with CT Passes can buy a Metro Gold Card, £12 for one year's travel. The Gold Card also allows free travel on the Ferry and on Northern Rail between Newcastle and Sunderland. Again the same 09.30 bar applies for those who do not qualify for the All Day CT Pass. The Gold Card is also available to buy for those who live outside Tyne and Wear, but this costs £25.

Over here in Blackpool, Disabled can use ENCTS for 50p before 09:30 & free after this time until 11pm, no restriction at Weekends & Bank Holidays, OAPs not valid before 09:30, but free after this time until 11pm & no restrictions at Weekends & Bank Holidays.
