I am not normally that bothered about busses, but I am just trying to get to the bottom of something. 284 appears to have been taken over by someone called Steel Group Investments. Who!? Their busses are a mottly collection of miss-matches with drivers who look like they have fallen out of the job centre. Now at least Arriva, who I thought ran the service had nice busses and smart drivers. This has left the area without Arrivas integrated ticketing, as all other busses along the mainly same route are Arriva, so you have to be careful as to whether you can use a Arriva day ticket for example. Any thoughts?

With respect, integrated ticketing in west yorkshire is arranged by WYPTE. MetroDay £5.40 (available from any bus driver) and weekly £21.50 Metrocard/M-card (available from travel centres).

I did say arrivas integrated ticketing, such as the day ticket £4.40. Arriva is still the main stay in Dewsbury, and is becoming very difficult for people to use on the thornhill lees route as it has been invaded by SGI, plus Tates Travel on weekends. Multiple bus companies is useless when they all have different prices, tickets and the smaller companies pack up just after tea time.

Which is why you should spend the extra pound on the ticket that allows you to use all ops

To be fair Metro are introducing PAYG Smart Cards in the not too distant future,so it should put a stop to all this single operator ticket shenanigans. I must say it drives me bonkers, so much so in the end I signed up to the Corporate Metro Card scheme at work,as I used to buy a First weekly ticket, I was sick of having to let buses pass me by.

I must say the K-Line drivers in Huddersfield are bunch of scruffy rag bags too, they don't appear to wear any kind of uniform and are a law unto themselves at times.

We have them down here in Hertfordshire too, a Centrebus brand. Pretty bad at communication and one just grunted at me when I tried to point out his bus, heading for Hitchin, said St Albans on the front (the bus was going nowhere near, and had been nowhere near St Albans!) They also seem to wear no uniform and the buses are generally falling apart, with broken destination blinds...

SGI haven't taken anything over. They're a new operator.

In April they introduced a 288 between Dewsbury and Birstall Retail Park via Batley.

Arriva launched a competing service 280 a few minutes in front of it.

SGI introduced a 284 service between Thornhill Edge and Dewsbury from 03/07/2013 along much the same route as Arriva's 281/2/3.

The 289 has its registration cancelled from 31/08/2013. The 284 has had its registration cancelled from 03/10/2013.

Unsuprisingly SGI don't accept the competitor's tickets but do accept all Metro tickets and ENCTS passes.

None of the Arriva services have stopped running so the area is not left without them.

The introduction of Smart Cards will not stop companies offering single operator tickets.

The proposed introduction of Quality Contract may.

Personally, I don't think Metro have the balls to go through with em, or has it been sanctioned?

Redline Buses in Barnsley is the same, its a mixture of white or red buses which look like they are held together with string and sticky back plastic. Seems to remind me of Paul's Travel / Fair Rider who had their Operators Licence revoked a few years back. Until they returned under the names of Sunny Travel from '07 - 08 then Route One Travel from '08 to '09.

Is that the company with yellow buses with seats removed to exploit a loophole in the system?

As an aside with ticketing, our local route mins Arriva and Huddersfield Bus Company...to the next town about 15 or so mins away, I understand Arriva cost about 50p more!

And Arriva are a minority shareholder (40%) in Centrebus Holdings, owner of Huddersfield Bus Company.

Caught up with this operator today. Can't see what the complaint is about the vehicles or drivers being scruffy. One vehicle was in advert livery for route 288 (not their fault it doesn't run any more), and one was all over white.

Respectively a Dart SLF / Wright Crusader ex Oxford - reduced to 16 seats, and a Plaxton Primo. I'm not sure about the 284 being deregistered, it seemed to be doing good business. Certainly the Primo was carrying a lot more than 16.

However, neither vehicle appeared to carry an operators licence. One had no disk at all, and one had a community bus permit !

Anyone know why the 288 has stopped? Is it purely because Arriva introduced the similar routed 280 five mins ahead of it, or is there something else to it?

Apparently the company has become/is becoming a community bus company.

Haven't seen anything about any new registrations so far though.
