444s are current limited to 1800 amps. 450s to 1500.

They would still be more powerful on the Southeastern because the line voltage is much higher to accommodate the Eurostars. The substations are also much closer together.

The current limit prevents them from taking advantage of that.

Nah not that fast.

The max line speed between Sevenoaks and Orpington is 90 EMU. However an UP 11 car 375 will often make 80 mph before entering Polhil Tunnel from a Sevenoaks stop- thats way better than any DC Desiro performance Ive experienced.

The original poster said almost 100. As you say the max line speed is 90 but where can an up Electrostar actually even get to that between Sevenoaks and Orpington?

In any case I don't think there is *that* much difference between an Electrostar operating on higher line voltage of the main line to Ashford and say the line via Chatham. An extra 5 mph at best.

The Chatham line also has the enhancements as far as Fawkham Junction for stage 1 of HS1 (and via Maidstone East) beyond Fawkham its largely a stopping service with stations close together.
