It started as we met on Platform 2. Miles arrived first, 10.00 sharp (Well 26 seconds late :P), and Mark and Alex arrived a few minutes later on a Voyager. But as D306's train was delayed by 10 minutes due to signal failures at Liecester, we decided to baord the 10:26 DBY - MAT.
On the Train, it was packed withm Parents and Children, probably going to Gulliver's. D306 arrived 2 minutes before the train left, and eventually found us at the bottom of the train!! The Kids were playing up behind us, so we started to play Blackjack and 21s. At first, me and Miles didn't get the game, Miles forgot the game we were playing, but we started to get a grip on the game as we passed Ambergate.
The TTI came to collect our tickets, and didn't beleive I was a Child still!!. As we approached Matlock Bath, most of the kids got off, and was quieter to Matlock. We got off at Matlock to stretch our legs, and me, Miles and D306 took some photos of the 158 (which was an exWessex Trains Alpahline unit). On the way back to Derby, it was a lot quieter than expected. we kept playing games, TTI came back, and we showed her the tickets again, and we carried on. as we approached Ambergate. The TTI and Driver was telephoned a message, which wasn't for them, but the puzzled and somewhat angry look, seemed to be a problem somewhere. When we got to Derby, the TTI told us what happened. Mark told us that the Token Collector at Ambergate is the same they use at Hampton Loade on the SVR, now to me its a token collector!!
We walked to Platform 1, and we had a mess round, and started looking if First class was at the back or the front. But as the HST arrived, we saw that it was at the front, different to what the screen was telling us. We got to Coach A (TGS), Mark and Alex sat down but we stood up next to the window of Coaches A/B, and had a lot of fun trying to talk out the windows when we were going at 90mph!! D306 and Me Flailed through Duffield and Belper (Earlier in the day an 03 on the EVR was on a maintanence train, with to workers sitting on chairs on the back of a 20T Brake Van!!! As we left Chesterfield, we saw 56302, later on we saw 37301, 303 and 304 fly by us to Derby, it was so fast the yellow burnt my retena temporarily!!
As we arrived in Sheffield, we headed straight for something to eat. We at first were going to go to a chippy, but as Sheffield looks like they don't own one, we went to MacDonalds. After we had dinner, D306 led us to Throntons and we brought some chocolate. By this Mark had gone hyper to find a Tesco, but we couldn't find one either. We passed one on the way back to DBY and NMC, but we couldn't stop. When we got back to the station, we looked at the times, and went to Platform 2 to get the train. We saw an Ex WTA 158, in the Exmoor Explorer vynils, Alex said it was a bit lost!!! The NR 37s arrived back in Sheffield, with 304 and 303 leading.
The Train arrived to take us to NMC, which was a 142, and I had to make a confession: I had never travelled on a Pacer (in my memory) on the mainline, but I had on a Preserved line. It was a nice journey to New Mills Central, we had some more card games (Alex was trying to nick the cards, or play with his wayfarer!!), and was talking about RUK, other Forums, and how Alex was an Admin at one time!!!
When we got back to Sheffield we waited for the HST, and got to the back where a few people decide to travel to. Now what is it with people, when they try to board the HSTs and the doors are locked? A yellow Light next to the door means they're unlocked, and everyone else is waiting for the train to open, so why bother? The HST was comfy, we didn't go to the windows because we were tired, and it had started to rain. We started talking again, and we were soon back in Derby.
We caught the 170 to Nottingham, ans started playing card games. During the trip, we saw a 312 head Heanor way, probobly for scrapping, or for preservation. When we got to Nottingham, we said our good byes to Miles (who had to go or he would have to wait 1 1/2 Hours for the bus to get home.) and we moved into the Declassified 1st Class Coach and found a table, and started playing with the cards again. When we got off at Derby, Mark and Alex stayed on the train to Bham New Street, while we got off. Micheal went to look what pltofrm his train comes in, and we went to the chippy so he could get something to eat. When Micheal left on a Meridian, I went home, and that was the end of the Bash!!
It was so fun, I will probably do another one next year!!!
