Research the TOC. :)

I haven’t don’t the depot driver interview but I’ve just accepted an offer as shunter, interview was very friendly and enjoyable from my perspective.
If you’re not sure how to answer something, be honest. They’re there to get the best out of you not trip you up.

I can safely say that I’d happily sit through another interview with the two guys who interviewed me.

What depot are you applying for? Farnham?

As said above(I didnt go for a depot driver role but something similar), just research mainly company information should include Who is Managing director, Engineering director(Neil Drury, useful as your a depot driver), what fleet the company actually have and what your depot also has(Depot specfic information can be found on the driver depot cards section on this part of the fourm). Etc

Main thing is to be ready to lean on any existing experience relevant to the role or that demonstrate key non technical skills require like anything you've done that shows situational Awareness, Diligence etc.

Main thing is remember Safety is the number one priority of all railway workers and they'll expect to see you make this clear to them. That's usually be showing you can follow rules and procedures effectively again based on previous experience.

Good luck

Had a Depot Driver interview for another TOC a few weeks ago, and best advice would be............

  1. Research the company as much as you can (Who's the MD, Number of daily services, how many employees, any future investment plans etc)
  2. Look up the traction (any futher procurment plans also)
  3. What does the role entail (Not just driving trains within the depot boundry, but brake testing support, fluid top ups etc etc)
  4. Think about how you cope in an emergency & in high pressure situations
  5. Become highly familiar with train driver competancies and situations where you have used them in everyday life or at work (Concentration, Staying Alert, Multi Tasking, Follow Rules/Regs etc etc)
The team who interviewed me were really good at making me feel relaxed and welcome. I actually realy enjoyed the experience

Best of Luck

You’re welcome. The advice above is really good. Communication is also right up there with safety in terms of importance on the railways (I was told this by someone within the industry before my interview).

Good Luck. :)
